Guerreiro tops Formolo vs Buitrago Live Stream to win Saudi Tour stage 4

Ruben Guerreiro (Movistar) beat Davide Formolo (UAE Team Emirates), Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain Victorious), and Felix GroƟschartner (UAE Team Emirates) in the sprint to win the queen stage of the Saudi Tour at the Skyviews of Harrat Uwayrid platform.

The four horsemen managed to escape on the climb to the plateau and withstood a determined but fragmented pursuit. Jonathan Milan (Bahrain Victorious) was part of the third chasing group and finished just 28 seconds behind Guerreiro, but lost the race lead to the Portuguese rider. Milan is now fifth overall at 24 seconds. Guerreiro now leads Formolo by eight seconds, with Buitrago nine seconds in third. He will have to defend the leader's green jersey during the final 142.9km stage on Friday, where sprinters should return to the fore. The climb to the finish line will always be decisive for the stage victory and the general classification. An early break opened up a two-minute gap on the AlUla circuits in the valley and Canadian Nickolas Zukowsky (Q36.5) was the last to be caught at the bottom of the climb, but the peloton was altogether like the motorway. out of the shadows Party information:

Formolo made a series of peaks on the 12% grade, but Buitrago joined him and GroƟschartner, with Guerreiro hooking on as the grade eased at the top. Then they walked up the plateau road together, keeping their pursuers at bay.

Formolo tried to control the sprint but Guerreiro overtook him and stopped the Italian. Guerriero switched from EF Education-EasyPost to Movistar for 2023 and quickly used his climbing skills to score an important win for the Spanish outfit earlier in the season. Movistar is working with the Saudi Arabian Cycling Federation and may get funding from the region in the future. “Today was very tough, very tough. We know this climb, we did it in training but we didn't know how our legs would feel after the stages with the wind and so much stress,” explained Guerreiro. “I think the secret to winning was waiting and waiting. It was a nervous stage, full speed or very slow due to the wind. We had to wait during the week and during the stage because there were three hours left until the final climb.

"I was seeing the guys from the UAE and Santiago Buitrago. He had a poker face. I had to keep an eye on him as he is fast. I was lucky to have legs for sprinting. I have to thank my teammates and the staff, they are fantastic. This victory is for them and for my family. This is my first year with the team and I immediately felt welcome here."

The overall lead in the race went to Guerreiro's advantage, but now he and Movistar are keen to take the overall victory. “I was focused on crossing the finish line first instead of the leader's jersey. We have a good team, only one stage left, I think we are ready and focused,” confirmed Guerreiro.
